Workplace initiatives
At the KCOM Group we recognise that all employees can have an impact on the environment - not only in the workplace but also at home.
Our environmental initiatives therefore embrace both activities in the home and at the workplace through our 'Greener Me' and 'Greener KCOM' schemes, which are aimed at encouraging collective ownership of environmental management across the entire Group.
Recent examples of home-based initiatives have been the provision of free energy efficient lightbulbs and also hippo water savers for all employees which has enabled employees to extend their environmental influence beyond the workplace. New Carbon Footprint Calculators have also been provided to allow employees to calculate the CO2 footprint for their home, travel and holiday flights. We are also promoting systems where employees can reduce their waste going to landfill by sharing items they no longer require with people that may be able to put them to use.
Workplace-based initiatives include:
- The provision of a carbon neutral ISP service through our Eclipse brand
- The introduction of OCS (Office Communication Server) within the Group to improve communications through Instant Messaging for immediate contact, Live Meeting for on-line meetings, collaboration and document sharing. These facilities reduce the requirements for travel and hence reduce our CO2 emissions
- Introduction of integrated printer facilities which can be managed centrally and configured to promote the more effective use of paper and energy
- The use of printer and copier across the Group with an 89% recycled content
- The production of Hull white and colour pages using 60% recycled paper
