Community grants

The Hull Roundheads stand as Hull's pioneering inclusive rugby team, embodying the essence of diversity, acceptance, and athletic excellence. Founded on a  commitment to inclusivity, particularly within the LGBTQIA+ community, the Roundheads have become a beacon of unity in Hull and its surrounding areas. Their mission transcends traditional rugby, creating a secure and welcoming space for individuals from all walks of life.

Their £1,000 grant will go towards helping buy essential rugby equipment and be a lifeline for various sectors of their community, particularly helping their young members.

Max Horton from Hull Roundheads said "KCOM’s investment will directly enhance our training program by funding vital sporting equipment, aiding us in our mission to provide a safe space for LGBTQ+ individuals to embrace their true selves and thrive through rugby.”

St Stephen's Neighbourhood Centre is a community hub that serves the Greatfield Estate in Hull, hosting a range of regular groups and sessions for different sections of the community. These include IT support, youth clubs, lunch clubs and drop-in clubs for the isolated and lonely.

The KCOM Community Grant will help them to renew some of their activity equipment, including new bowling equipment, mats and pool equipment.

Howden Pre-School and Out of School Club is a charitable organisation, providing opportunities for children, aged two to 11, to develop and learn, and prepare their youngest children for the move into full time school. The Pre-School is situated in a secure, woodland location in the heart of Howden.

The £1,000 grant from KCOM will help them to buy new cloakroom furniture to accommodate more children.

Carrie Richardson from the Pre-School said "We would like to say a huge thank you to KCOM for their very generous donation of £1,000 towards our cloakroom furniture at our new setting, The Bishops Manor."

North Lincolnshire Aviation and Heritage Centre is a mature group of hardworking and dedicated self-skilled volunteers who in 2019 took over the disused and overgrown RAF Hibaldstow airfield base in North Lincolnshire with an aim to create a permanent Memorial to the RAF and other Allied nations who served from that airfield during the war. They have created a museum and archive/educational facility which will become part of the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Trail.

The group has received a £300 donation to enable them to purchase a new catering sink to upgrade their cafeteria.

Trinity Cubs is a large cub pack based at Trinity Methodist Church on Newland Avenue in Hull.  They are part of Trinity scouts, which has sections for young people aged from four to 14, as well as close links to an explorer unit for young people aged 14-17 (Genesis ESU). Their activities include learning basic first aid, problem solving, hiking competitions, team building days and so much more. In 2024 they have more activities planned including going camping. All of their leaders are volunteers, with a large number being university students, as well as enjoying amazing parent support.

The Cubs have received a grant of £300 to help them upgrade their camping equipment.

James McMillan from the Cubs group said: "This is amazing news and will go a long way to help us as a group. The investment in camping materials will allow us when planning future camps to remove part of the cost associated with the equipment."

Anyone from a community in Hull, East Yorkshire or North Lincolnshire where KCOM services are available or being installed can apply for a grant.

Your application must be on behalf of a local community group, charity, voluntary group, club, school or other not-for-profit organisation, although you don’t need to work for them.

The grant must be used to benefit people living in our region. It can be used for specific purchases like sports or IT equipment, or to help fund big projects like building repairs. Grants must be used within six months of being awarded.

Our community grants panel is made up of KCOM employees who live and work in the region. They meet four times a year to consider every eligible application we've received during the previous three months. As an example, applications received in October, November and December will be looked at in January.

Our community panel is looking for applications that will make a positive difference to members of the local community. As a guide, applications to fund things that have longevity and a far reaching impact are more likely to be successful than applications for one-off events or items that can only be used once. Applications for venue hire, travel costs or marketing materials will not be considered.
