Kcom, part of the KCOM Group, recently attended the IDC Consumerisation of IT conference in London.
The conference, aimed at IT specialists, aimed to look at the various concepts around consumerisation in the workplace - how it exists in its current format and how it will evolve in organisations.
Andy Wood, Head of Communication and Collaboration at Kcom, presented his ideas to the 100 attendees and took part in the afternoon’s panel discussion.
His presentation looked at globalisation, the UK economy, universal connectivity, IT consumerisation and standardisation vs innovation. All of which set the scene for how the consumerisation of IT has come about, evolved and changed the way in which we work.
“The role of IT in businesses has changed.” comments Andy. “They’re no longer running, building and managing things, now they’re asking questions about the business strategy and how IT can drive productivity and innovation.”
He continues to say that “They’re also taking note of the fact that the employees have higher expectations of the technology that they work with. Consumerisation within the workplace is something that is often seen as problematic, mainly because of policies and governance. I think it is something that should be embraced.”
You can watch Andy’s presentation on YouTube to find out what he thinks the workplace will look like in 2020.
