Kcom hosted website wins BIMA award for Redweb

‘About My Vote’ site brings important information to the hands of Britain’s voters

The Electoral Commission website (‘About My Vote’) designed and built by Redweb and hosted by Kcom has won the Best Informational Website award in the recent British Interactive Media Association (BIMA) Awards. The website was designed with the aim of making voting easy, increasing online registrations and reducing query calls to the helpdesk. It has also achieved its aim of improving registration of under-represented groups (e.g. under 25s and minority groups) by using appropriate tools to engage them, and making it easy for them to understand and register.

Redweb and Kcom have been working together for seven years, providing fully hosted web solutions to customers. Redweb designs and builds the sites and Kcom provides managed hosting for them. The hosting required for the Electoral Commission website was to an advanced specification, providing high levels of security, important due to the privacy and sensitivity of data handled through the website. ‘About My Vote’(www.aboutmyvote.co.uk), which was launched in September 2008, has been a great success for the Electoral Commission, presenting a fantastic user experience. The website was designed to be easy to use, whether users need to register to vote or to find general information about voting. As well as standard written content, the website also makes use of videos and animation to provide information that is easy to digest.
