Kcom's Bristol data centre gets £500,000 facilities boost

London, UK – 27th January, 2010:  Kcom’s state-of-the-art storage facility in Bristol has recently had a £500,000 investment to enhance the protection of local businesses’ “crown jewels”.

Wayne Pearce, Kcom’s Regional Sales Manager for Bristol, said the half a million pound injection will further enhance the security and technology required to store and protect company data – the most valued component of any business.

“As a business, data is your crown jewels. Many businesses may be uncertain about handing over management of company data to a third party to store in another location. However, given its value, a purpose built facility is the most secure possible option.” he added.

Based in the heart of Bristol, the data storage facility is one of communications provider Kcom’s national data centres which provide a secure location for storing company servers. Kcom – part of the KCOM Group – says its latest investment gives any business the reassurances that its data is being protected by top security, protection from faults and an uninterruptible power supply.

Wayne, who is based at the Bristol data centre, said the upgrade has also increased the site’s storage capacity by 100 per cent.

“Our investment at Bristol is part of a £1 million upgrade across all six of our data centres across the UK,” he explained. “Improvements made to our Bristol site mean we can offer more storage space and even higher security to more businesses than ever before. Our new state-of-the-art air cooling system also ensures we are even more energy efficient, reducing our annual CO2  emissions by 131 tonnes.”

He added: “Any local business considering off-site server management now has the added assurance that housing their data in Kcom’s Bristol site can provide a low risk, environmentally responsible and secure business solution.”

Kcom’s £500,000 investment at Bristol also brings 24/7 security and a range of protection systems including early smoke detection, enhanced CCTV and power distribution which allows up to two additional back up supplies. Kcom also has co-location centres in London, Reading, Chalfont and Leeds.
