Kcom’s IP Telephony includes a number of components that can be centralised or distributed across your network using IP:
- Call processing is the ‘brain’ that sets up your calls. Once a call is set up, call processing is only involved when a user requests a new feature such as a call transfer. Examples include Avaya Communications Manager and Cisco Communications Manager
- Endpoints, which your employees use to make calls. Many types of endpoints are available, ranging from simple ‘dial-tone only’ telephones to multi-line, high-definition video devices
- Gateways use ISDN or SIP to connect to the public telephone network that can also connect to your existing PBXes. Special secure IP-to-IP gateways connect via SIP to external IP networks, including BT’s 21CN
- Switching is done on your existing IP network, unlike traditional time-division multiplexed (TDM) PBXs, which use their own switching matrix. Your IP network powers your endpoints, and is configured to provide the quality of service (QOS) needed for high call quality
