What is a Community Champion?

A Community Champion promotes the benefits of being online and the advantages that KCOM Lightstream broadband can bring to people within their community. They do this by supporting the marketing and publicity of full fibre broadband in their local area, for example:

  • Sharing posts on social media, e.g. local Facebook groups
  • Distributing flyers
  • Putting up posters/notices in local venues
  • Delivering leaflets through the doors of local residents and businesses
  • Applying stickers to cabinets to highlight when they are live

Why become a Community Champion?

If you're passionate about bringing full fibre to your community, we will work with you to help make it happen. The more demand we see from your community, the faster we can bring our services to you so that you and your neighbours can experience the benefits of full fibre broadband.

    • Where are Community Champions needed?

      We are constantly expanding the KCOM network, and want to hear from any communities in need of superfast broadband. Providing there’s enough demand, we’ll work with your local area to deliver a service to you.

      We are also looking for Community Champions in our existing rollout area of Yorkshire and Lincolnshire - see our availability page for more details. The more Community Champions that we have on board, the faster we can generate demand in different towns and villages.

    • Is there a time commitment?

      We don’t set the rules here. We will be reliant on the goodwill of our Community Champions, but would ask that you consider a few hours each week to be available and offer your services and support.

    • Will I receive any help from KCOM?

      We will be there every step of the way to offer support and advice. If you decide to get involved, we will go through an onboarding process to ensure you have all the information you need, and we can offer further resources and tool kits as required. Our Community Champion Co-ordinator will also provide all the marketing materials for your campaign.     • Why are Community Champions important?

      Community Champions are key to getting more people online and raising awareness of full fibre benefits within the local community. It is so important that the messages about the KCOM rollout programme are kept fresh and at the forefront of people’s minds, so that we can generate interest and get your town or village connected as soon as possible.

      Champions are also vital in maintaining a two-way dialogue between ourselves and the community, so that we can ensure our goals and activities are aligned at all times.

      Finally, although we proactively work with communities without access to full fibre services, Community Champions can highlight areas with pent-up demand that might not be on our radar just yet - meaning that we can look at coming there sooner.
