Which app should I use when I’m feeling hungry?

Everyone loves a takeaway every now and then, and with the option to order food from a phone, we’re spoilt for choice when it comes to deciding which meal to have delivered.

We’ve looked at some of the top online food delivery services currently dominating the market to find out what makes them different, and which one is the best choice for you.

Just Eat

Possibly the longest-running option on this list, Just Eat currently operates in over 13 countries across Europe, Asia and North America. Unlike newer, fancier services such as Deliveroo, Just Eat mostly covers your standard local takeaways, saving you a trip out into the cold to pick up a kebab.

Just Eat also bought out fellow delivery service Hungry House back in 2018, combining their takeaway options and giving customers even more choice.

Foodhub

Another option that works best for people looking to order from a local takeaway rather than a global chain, Foodhub is unique due to the fact that it doesn’t charge any commissions, meaning better deals for both customers and restaurants.

There’s also no service charge on orders, so you can save that 50p and use it on a cheeky garlic dip instead.

Uber Eats

We may not be able to use Uber’s driving service here in Hull, but if you’re lucky enough to live in a busy postcode, you can reap the benefits of their food delivery app, Uber Eats.

Launched worldwide in 2014, the service quickly became the most profitable part of Uber, and there are plenty of takeaways and even restaurants across the city partnered up with the service. Popular names such as McDonald’s and Subway are included on the app, as well as smaller chains like White Hart, Bird is the Word and Kaspa’s Desserts.

After your order is placed, you can track your delivery status in real time and your food will be delivered by car, bike, scooter or on foot depending on the area you’re in.

Uber Eats is available from both the Play Store and the App Store.

Deliveroo

Deliveroo has been available in Hull for a while now and we’re sure you’ll have seen their delivery cyclists whilst out and about.

The app goes above and beyond the realms of a regular takeaway delivery service by offering users the ability to order from popular fast food chains such as KFC and Burger King. Other notable local restaurants available on the app include Viet Memories, KerbEdge and Dope Burger, as well as eateries like Pizza Hut and Zizzi.

The only downside of Deliveroo is that it’s only available in certain areas of the city, so if you live quite far from the city centre, you’re best sticking to good old Just Eat.
