KCOM takes centre stage in fantastic Hull Lego film!
A musical LEGO tribute to Hull has gone viral - giving a fantastic shout out to KCOM as it racks up thousands of views.
The video, combining fun Lego animation with a jaunty song called "Hull You're Alright" has been created by local digital company INIT Creative, highlighting all the fantastic things about the city.
And alongside dozens of Easter eggs about local culture, KCOM also gets plenty of shoutouts - including in the catchy chorus of "From KCOM lights to the brown grey sea" while Lego KCOM engineers set about fixing some fibre cable alongside a cream K6 kiosk and KCOM’s "Lord Prescott" van.
Also getting a mention is our Hometown Hero Tommy Coyle, who can be spotted next to his family's fruit and veg stall on Jameson Street.
The video is the work of INIT Creative, who KCOM recently gave a Digital Inclusion Grant under their charity wing of Reel Creative, to fund workshops for local SEND youngsters in Hull. You can read more about that here
KCOM’s community sponsorship of Hull Seahawks ice hockey team also gets a show
INIT Creative founder Adam Storch said: “The inspiration was really about showing off some of the great things happening in Hull, like the refurbished Queens Gardens and the Maritime Museum, and creating a real feel-good factor around the city. There’s often a lot of negative press, so we wanted to flip that and celebrate what makes Hull special.
“Alongside that, we layered in a bit of music nostalgia and some hidden Hull “easter eggs” throughout the video, those little details people recognise and love spotting, which helps build a deeper connection to it.
“The reason we included KCOM is that it’s such a big part of the city centre, especially with the phone boxes, so we always knew we wanted those in.
“There are still a lot of things we didn’t cover, so I’m sure there’ll be a part two in the future!”
