Lightstream arrives in Gunness

Broadband buffering is a thing of the past for the village of Gunness as KCOM’s full fibre network goes live.

Nearly 400 homes and businesses can now enjoy ultrafast streaming, surfing and downloading as the award-winning broadband provider launches its ultrafast services in the North Lincolnshire village.

The arrival of world class connectivity has been welcomed by local MP Andrew Percy who said a quality broadband network is now a must-have for rural communities such as Gunness.

He said: “I’m delighted that Gunness can now access fast, reliable broadband, which is often now essential for everyday life, enabling people to work, study and even just relax at home.

“There has been a real call from the local community for access to a better broadband network so KCOM’s investment in Gunness and the surrounding area is a welcome boost for the region.

“A quality broadband connection is vital for many families and this new fibre network will help improve the lives of many local people and create a host of new opportunities for local businesses.”

KCOM’s Lightstream network enables homes to stream, surf and download at speeds of up to 900Mbps while local businesses will be able to work more efficiently without the fear of buffering or calls with clients dropping out.

KCOM’s launch in Gunness is the latest step in its £62m network expansion across North Lincolnshire and North Yorkshire, which is set to reach 50,000 more homes and businesses within the next two years. Among the other North Lincolnshire communities set to benefit from KCOM’s full fibre network in the next few months are Epworth and Kirton Lindsey while homes and businesses in Wrawby, near Brigg, are already able to connect to its ultrafast broadband.

Neil Bartholomew, managing director of KCOM Retail, said: “It’s great to see the work to connect Gunness to our full fibre network now completed and I can’t wait to see how it will help transform local residents’ online experience.

“There was a huge show of interest among villagers in bringing our network to Gunness and I’d like to thank everyone for the welcome they’ve shown our engineers during the works to install our network. I know having  works going on down your street is never fun, but we’ve been pleased with the reception we’ve been given and delighted that Gunness can now enjoy all the benefits of being connected to one of the best full fibre broadband networks in the UK.

“We’re committed to connecting rural communities like Gunness that have often been left behind by the big national providers so everyone has access to the many opportunities that being online can offer.”

Last year KCOM won the Commitment to the Local Community Award at the national Better Society Awards and this year has been shortlisted for the Best Consumer Internet Service Provider at the  prestigious ISPA Awards. The winner will be revealed in November.
