Closure of Directory Enquiry Service Numbers

Written by KCOM Support on 24/11/2025. Posted in Phone.

Important news about 118/197 numbers. Due to an increase in internet search engines and similar technology, KCOM has seen a significant decline in the use of 118/197 numbers and consequently, we have made the decision to terminate these services.

What does that mean?

We have ceased our 197 directory enquiry service number, meaning it is no longer supported as of 17th August 2024.

What happens next?

If you are unable to read, or hold a telephone directory due to sight loss or another disability, you can still make use of a free directory enquiries service.

Once you have successfully signed up for the service, all you need to do is dial 195 and you can speak to an operator who will find the number you require.

If you ask to be connected to the number you require, you will then be charged for the call you make in-line with the rates stated in your KCOM call package.

How do I sign up?

To sign up for this service you need to fill out a simple application form.

Call for free on 0800 587 0195 to ask for your form.
