To connect your Xbox Series X|S console to the internet, you can use either a wireless or wired connection to your router.

Something to note

These instructions are the same for connecting Xbox One consoles to the internet.

Using a wireless connection

  1. Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide

  2. Select Profile & system > Settings > General > Network settings

  3. Select Set up wireless network

  4. Select your wireless network from the list of available networks and then type in your wireless password. If you don't remember your wireless name or password, check out this article.

  5. Once you have connected to your wireless network, look at the Network settings screen and then select Test network connection. If the connection test is successful, your console will connect to Xbox Live, or it will update to the latest system software.

Using a wired connection

  1. You'll need an Ethernet cable if you want to use a wired connection from your Xbox to your router.
  2. Plug one end of the cable into the back of your router - this will fit into one of the LAN ports. Next, plug the other end of the cable into the back of your Xbox console.

  3. Now we'll test your network connection. Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide.

  4. Select Profile & system > Settings > General > Network settings

  5. Select Test network connection. If the connection test is successful, your console will connect to Xbox Live, or it will update to the latest system software.
