KCOM's reached a major milestone in its deployment of ultrafast fibre broadband across Hull and East Yorkshire, announcing that the rollout of its Lightstream service has passed 100,000 properties.

The landmark has been achieved earlier than originally planned following a decision by KCOM in March to accelerate the pace of its deployment. The increased investment announced at that time means that by December 2017 Lightstream will be available to at least 150,000 properties.

News of the milestone was welcomed by the Minister of State for Digital and Culture, Matt Hancock, who visited Hull yesterday (Thursday) and met members of KCOM's management team to find out more about its Gigabit capable fibre deployment.

The UK is a European leader when it comes to superfast broadband coverage, but we want to stay ahead of the competition. It's great to see KCOM's investment and innovation in rolling out ultrafast broadband across Hull and East Yorkshire - their investment will help make sure the UK remains a world leading digital economy.

Minister of State for Digital and Culture

Hull remains the only city in the UK where ultrafast broadband is being made available as standard thanks to KCOM's investment in Fibre To The Premises (FTTP) technology. It means KCOM can offer its customers some of the fastest broadband speeds in the UK.

We're delighted to have reached this important milestone in our plans to make Hull the UK's Ultrafast city. Over the months ahead we'll be making Lightstream available to tens of thousands of households and businesses in areas right across our network. Research has shown that access to Ultrafast broadband is vital to business and economic success in the UK and we're proud that this region is leading the way.
