The East Yorkshire-based broadband provider was nominated in two categories at the prestigious national awards last night, dubbed the Oscars of the internet industry, missing out narrowly in the UK’s Best Consumer Broadband Provider and Best Infrastructure categories.

Dale Raneberg, KCOM chief executive officer, said: “I would like to congratulate Glide, who took home the Best Infrastructure award, and Community Fibre who won the Best Consumer Broadband Provider.

“Although we didn’t win this year it was a big achievement for us to make the shortlist for both of these awards again for the second year running after taking home the top prize in the Best Consumer ISP category last year. It shows we’re consistently providing an excellent service to our customers and doing the right thing by continuing to make major investments in our full fibre network across East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire.

“I’d like to say thank you to ISPA for nominating us for the awards and, most of all, a huge thankyou to all my colleagues at KCOM who have worked so hard this year to keep our customers connected when they’ve needed their broadband more than ever. We’ll definitely be back and ready to compete again next year.”

Mr Raneberg added that the awards highlighted how the coronavirus pandemic has shown quality broadband is now vital for people working, isolating and schooling their children at home.

He said: “In 2019 we completed the rollout of our Fibre To The Premises Lightstream service across our Hull and East Yorkshire network. Our investment gave thousands of homes and businesses access to world-class broadband and made Hull the UK’s first full fibre city. This has proved invaluable for thousands of our customers in the past year.
“We’ve followed that up this year with expansion of our network further into East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire and we’re looking forward to bringing the benefits of full fibre broadband to even more customers in the months and years ahead.”

KCOM completed the rollout of its full fibre network across its traditional Hull and East Yorkshire heartlands in 2019, reaching 200,000 homes and business. Earlier this year it announced a further £100m network expansion, bringing the benefits of full fibre broadband to many more communities across East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire.
It has already reached towns and villages including Driffield, Nafferton, Market Weighton, Pocklington, Howden and Goole and recently announced it is to cross the Humber for the first time to expand its full fibre network to the North Lincolnshire towns of Barton-Upon-Humber and Brigg.

The company will announce more destinations for its expansion programme shortly.
