To use Call Barring, all you need is a phone that has * and # keys and is set to 'tone'. 'Tone' is also referred to as DTMF.
To check that your phone is set to tone/DTMF, pick up the receiver and press the number 4 three times. If you hear three short 'beeps', your phone is set correctly. You may be able to alter your phone settings by a switch at the base or side of your phone.
National Call Barring includes all calls to 01 and 02 numbers, 07 numbers (mobiles), and 08 numbers. Organisations such as the Police and NHS Direct have 0845 numbers as contact numbers - this means that if you select National Call Barring, you won't be able to call these numbers.

Once registered, you should receive a letter from us that contains your PIN (Personal Identification Number) and confirmation that barring has been applied. For security reasons, please don't give anyone else your PIN. If you need a new PIN, this can be provided at an extra charge of £12.00 (plus VAT).
Once the barring has been applied, your dial tone will change to an intermittent tone - this isn't a fault, it just means that your barring is working.
