What to watch on UKTV Play 18.10.2018

2

Here’s the very best of what’s available to watch this month on UKTV Play.

Women Behind Bars

A 2008 American series, Women Behind Bars offers an in-depth reality TV-style look at women in the American prison system. Each episode focuses on a different murder, with a detailed recount of what happened, who the crime was committed by, and the motives behind it.

Fawlty Towers

An oldie but a goodie, Fawlty Towers was a British sitcom broadcast on BBC2 between 1975 and 1979. The series is set in Fawlty Towers, a fictional hotel in the seaside town of Torquay, and the plots centre on tense, rude and put-upon owner Basil Fawlty, his wife Sybil, comparatively normal chambermaid Polly, and hapless, English-challenged Spanish waiter Manuel, who attempt to run the hotel amidst farcical situations and an array of demanding and eccentric guests and tradespeople.

A Tale of Two Sisters

Not to be confused with the several horror films of the same name, this exclusive three-part series explores the relationships of six prominent women from world history – sisters by birth, all exhibiting very different relationships with each other. The series explores the fascinating but sometimes fractious lives of Jackie Kennedy Onassis, aviation hero Amelia Earhart, and the infamous Mitford sisters.

I Should Have Died

I Should Have Died! gives viewers a look into some of the most severe and shocking stories of survival from real people, whose lives were changed forever by a moment of impact.

There are several episodes available to watch, ranging from incidents such as a woman who was speared in the neck with a wooden stake from the winds of a tornado, to a teenager whose skull was crushed by a devastatingly powerful golf swing.

Judge Romesh

Judge Romesh is a comedy show that was originally broadcast on Dave. Starring British comedy legend Romesh Ranganathan as the judge, all of the episodes focus on settling disputes in a fictional civil court. The show is completely unscripted, with the claimant and defendant usually being members of the public, though several cases aired which took place between celebrities.

The show has received mixed critical reception and was widely compared to other popular court shows such as Judge Rinder.

Life on Mars

Taking its name from the famous David Bowie song, Life on Mars was another British TV series broadcast on BBC One between 2006 and 2007. The storyline combines several elements of speculative fiction and police procedural, featuring a present day officer who wakes up in 1973 after being involved in a road accident.

A sequel to the series, Ashes to Ashes, aired in 2008, and the original series has inspired several remakes, from a US version to a more recent South Korean edition.
