Did you know that 93 per cent of people who work for us locally or are employed in our supply chain also live in Hull?
We’re one of the region’s major employers and that’s why we think it’s our duty to support the city whenever we can.
We’re usually busy doing something, somewhere, in Hull - whether that’s in the city’s schools, its sports clubs and community groups or in its charities. We don’t always shout about it, but our people enjoy getting stuck into dozens of community projects every year.
Here’s a list of a dozen things KCOM has done in the past 12 months to make life better in Hull.
- In the past 12 months KCOM employees have volunteered 1,820 hours as part of our community activities. That’s 242.5 working days.
- Between April 2016 and April 2017, 236 people from KCOM have volunteered.
- In the same period KCOM has supported 156 different community organisations in Hull and East Yorkshire.
- Nearly 1,000 children in 19 schools across Hull and East Riding saw the Click Clever internet safety play that was produced by Spin-Off Productions and supported by KCOM.
- Our latest collection for Hull Food Bank managed to raise enough for 250 meal packages.
- Last Christmas, KCOM’s shoebox appeal collected gifts and toys for more than 100 underprivileged youngsters in Hull.
- Last year we took our Simnet, internet inventor and safety activities as well as careers and enterprise events to 47 schools across the region.
- KCOM employees donated hundreds of toiletry products for the Hull Homeless Community Project in March.
- In February a team from KCOM cleared a disused plot of land for Sirius Academy which is now being transformed into a Shakespeare-inspired garden for youngsters with learning difficulties.
- Every year we award 12 community grants to local causes, ranging from youngsters’ drama groups to equipment for a Hull wheelchair basketball club and a white water canoe for the Kingston Kayak Club.
- We donated an IT suite to the Humber All Nations Alliance (HANA) to help their members from countries all over the world integrate into the Hull community.
- We won’t stop. Already this year we’ve made a donation to Hull Civic Society to help make its popular Heritage Open Days possible again.
