KCOM launches search to find the sweet taste of Hull
Can you help capture the authentic taste of Hull in a sweet treat?
Every woman, every man, join our Caravan of Love…
You may have recently seen KCOM’s first ever TV advert, thanking the people across East Yorkshire for keeping the region going during the coronavirus pandemic.
The ad, which aired on ITV during shows such as Coronation Street and The Chase, featured a cover of the classic Housemartins number one Caravan of Love sung by the Hull Community Voices choir.
Now, to keep the caravan rolling we’ve recruited four community groups to record their own unique version of the Isley Brothers’ classic.
From the hip hop youngsters of the Hull Beats Bus to the cool choral harmonies of Freedom Road Creative Arts, the soul-stirring sounds of the Humberside Police Brass Band and returning caravanners, the Hull Community Voices – KCOM has recruited a quartet of creative community groups bursting with musical talent.
You’ll find each of the groups’ unique take on the song here and they’re well worth a listen.
But which is your favourite?
KCOM wants members of the public to vote for whichever version they believe is best – and by doing so they could win the community group responsible a £1,000 top prize.
The second and third placed runners-up will receive £750 and £500 respectively.
Every group taking part will receive at least £250 – but if you want your favourite to hitch their caravan up to the top prize you’ll need to get voting now.
Brendon Smurthwaite, KCOM’s community coordinator, said the four different versions of the song showed the huge amount of music talent in our local community.
He said: “It’s amazing how the four different groups have taken the same, classic song and done something new and original with it. We love the creativity that has gone into making each individual track stand out.
“We now want as many people as possible to listen to the different versions and vote for their favourite to find out which caravan is loved the most. Plus it could mean a tidy cash windfall for your favourite group to continue doing great work in the local community.”
Voting closes on 15 October 2020 and KCOM will announce a winner shortly afterwards.
So, in the words of the song, “stand up, stand up, stand up” to make your voice heard - and your favourite group could soon be hitting the road to caravanning success.
