Five hilarious podcasts to give you the giggles

The popularity of podcasts is on the rise and there are so many great ones out there at the moment to choose from. If you’re looking for a laugh, we’ve rounded up five of the funniest that are a real treat for the ears

My Dad Wrote a Porno

This is probably one of the most recommended podcasts out there at the minute. My Dad Wrote a Porno focuses on the literary habits of Jamie Morton’s dad, who decided to let his son into a secret on his sister’s birthday – he’d been writing an erotic novel in his garden shed.

Instead of repressing the experience and pretending it never happened, Jamie decided to read it to the world in the format of an award-winning comedy podcast. With the help of his friends, James Cooper and BBC Radio 1's Alice Levine, Jamie reads a chapter a week and releases it to the world in the form of a 40-minute episode. My Dad Wrote A Porno is still ongoing, and currently on its fourth season.

The Baby-Sitters Club Club

No, that’s not a typo. This podcast takes inspiration from the old The Baby-Sitters Club series by American novelist Ann M. Martin, following a group of friends as they read through the novels in chronological order and initiate themselves into their arcane, mystical rites.

They’re on a mission to journey through every novel in the collection, starting with Kristy's Great Idea and eventually ending with the ominously named The Fire at Mary Anne's House.

How Did This Get Made?

A good choice for film fans, How Did This Get Made? is a podcast hosted by Paul Scheer, June Diane Raphael and Jason Mantzoukas. Each show, which typically has a different guest, features the deconstruction and mockery of outlandish and bad movies.

The hosts and guest make jokes about the films as well as attempt to unscramble plots. After a hilarious discussion, Scheer reads second opinions in the form of five-star reviews posted online by Amazon users.

The show is released fortnightly, and fortunately there are plenty of terrible films out there for the hosts to touch on.

My Brother, My Brother And Me

Another extremely popular one, My Brother, My Brother and Me classes itself as ‘an advicecast for the modern era’ and is presented by three real-life brothers: Justin, Travis and Griffin McElroy.

With new episodes landing every Monday, the brothers McElroy answer any and all queries sent their way, sharing them according to respective areas of expertise. Occasionally, they try their hand at answering questions found on Yahoo! Answers instead, always to hilarious results.

The Worst Writer in the World

This podcast is hosted by two men: Rufus, an English teacher with a degree in Literature, and Howard, an ‘unemployed idiot’. Howard spent his entire childhood writing stories and scripts, which are now seeing the light of day in the form of Rufus ripping into them relentlessly.

As Rufus attempts to read out the stories, the two work together to probe the plot holes, interrogate the inconsistencies, and use their adult brains to fix the many problems that are inherent in Young Howard's work.
