Make sure you don’t miss out on the fun this December

Some of the most exciting and festive events of the year are taking place across Hull and East Yorkshire in the lead-up to Christmas. Make sure you don’t miss out on the fun!

The Ugly Duckling: Christmas Special

Sometimes being young is hard and you just can’t wait to grow up. You’ll be happy, you’ll be beautiful, you’ll fly. Right? This is a story about being a duckling, not a swan.

Join Hull Truck Theatre and The Herd this December for a festive reimagining of Hans Christian Andersen’s classic tale, which celebrates friendship, living in the present, and the magic of childhood… especially at Christmastime!

The Ugly Duckling: Christmas Special runs at Hull Truck Theatre from Monday 17 December to Saturday 5 January.

Cinderella

Audiences shall go to the ball this Christmas as Cinderella transforms from rags to riches, outwits her Wicked Stepmother and very Ugly Sisters, and with the help of her hilarious friend Buttons, father Baron Hardup and one very magical Fairy Godmother, wins the heart of the dashing Prince Charming.

Cinderella will feature all of the ingredients of the perfect pantomime: a fabulous cast and orchestra, laugh-out-loud comedy, stunning scenery and special effects, beautiful costumes and plenty of boos and hisses for all the family to enjoy. This year’s panto also features an exciting, eye-popping 3D sequence and real Shetland ponies to transport our fabulous heroine to the ball.

Catch Cinderella at Hull New Theatre from Thursday 6 to Sunday 30 December.

Love Actually in Concert

Following on from a triumphant sold-out 2017 premiere tour, Love Actually will be screened live across the UK with a full orchestra performing its enchanting score – just in time for Christmas.

Directed by Richard Curtis and originally released in cinemas in 2003, Love Actually tells ten separate yet interweaving stories of love set around festive season. A full, live orchestra will perform Craig Armstrong’s evocative score at these shows, with the film being projected onto a huge screen. Make sure you kick off the holiday season right with this magnificent celebration of a British comedy classic.

Don’t miss this special performance at Bonus Arena on Monday 10 December.

Beauty and the Beast

Popular Hull theatre company Middle Child’s alternative panto returns for its seventh year, this time with a rock and roll take on the classic fairy tale Beauty and the Beast.

Will Belle get to live the adventurous life she always wanted? Will the Prince escape his beastly curse? And will the villainous Lord Wigbert get his hands on Humber Street at last? With a live band, mess galore and the chance to make as much noise as you can, Beauty and the Beast keeps up the wild and chaotic style that has made the Middle Child panto an unmissable part of Hull’s festive season.

The company’s late-night, adult-only shows also return for five nights only after a sell-out run in 2017, with a 10pm start making them the perfect fit for adults who aren’t ready to grow up just yet.

Beauty and the Beast will run from Tuesday 18 to Sunday 23 December at Jubilee Central on King Edward Street.
