Tribfest is back for its 11th year, attracting music fans from across the country.
Withernsea Festivals is back with its fantastic music and motorbike extravaganza. We caught up with its Chair, Guy Moxton, to find out what’s in store.
Starting out in 1994 as a fundraiser for some new town Christmas lights, Withernsea Festival has gone from strength-to-strength. It’s now the largest free concert of its kind in the county.
The three-dayer is jam-packed full of fun for all the family and attracts motorcycle enthusiasts from around the UK and across the globe.
With over 70 acts performing across the long weekend, this is a fantastic opportunity for the whole family to have a fun, affordable weekend.
“All we ask is for people to purchase a programme and a wristband for £1 each if they want to help us out,” Guy explains. “We have two stages, the main stage and an acoustic tent. A bit of everything will be offered, from folk bands to heavy rock groups.”
On top of all this, several stunts and motorbike displays will take place near the promenade.
“The Wall of Death is a spectacular sight. We also have the Vander Wheel of Death, which involves four spinning wheels on a 35ft high-structure,” Guy exclaims. “The performers walk and swing between all of them – completely blindfolded!
If that’s not enough excitement for you, a firework display will launch every night to mark the end of that day’s entertainment.
“We’re expecting anywhere between 2,000 and 3,000 bikers to attend the festival this year,” enthuses Guy. “They will be able to show off their bikes, go on ride-outs and meet other bike clubs.”
With endorsement from the British Motorcycle Federation, Guy expects this year to be the biggest yet.
“It’s not just for bikers though, it’s for everyone, the whole family,” he says. “There truly is something for everyone; juggling clowns, balloon modelling, face painting, funfair attractions and two bar areas.”
In the meantime, festival-goers can tuck into an array of delicious international and local cuisine, including fish and chips, hot doughnuts, scrummy pancakes, Caribbean delicacies, fresh popcorn, and there’s even an afternoon tea van.
“Our main aim is to self-fund this free event and promote the town,” Guy tells us. “Withernsea, unfortunately, has a history of not being a great place to visit. We want to show people that it has changed. We want to make it a destination that people look forward to visiting, not one to avoid.”
If you want to make a weekend of it, camping options are available. Pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes can be hired for just £15 from Friday through to Monday.
On site, there is access to showers, toilets and food. Meanwhile, a handy shuttle bus service brings you to and from the festival.
