KCOM’s work in the local community has been recognised with an award nomination for Sean Royce.

Sean, who was appointed as managing director of KCOM Retail in 2018, has been nominated in the Social Value and Sustainability category in the Institute of Directors, Yorkshire & North East, Director of the Year Awards 2020.

The award celebrates leaders who can demonstrate how they integrate the success and smooth running of their business with a strong sense of social responsibility and corporate values.

Congratulating Sean on his nomination, KCOM chief executive officer Dale Raneberg said: “This is fantastic recognition for Sean for all the work he’s led here at KCOM that benefits people across Hull and East Yorkshire.

“The company is determined to build on this work and continue to play its part which has never been more important than now."

KCOM’s work supporting the local community has proved vitally important during the Covid-19 pandemic as it adapted its products and services, supported vulnerable people and NHS workers, and worked with several charity groups to help meet new critical needs.

In his role leading KCOM retail, Sean recently launched a new Community Partnership with Hull City as a way to create new opportunities for people through its relationship with the Tigers.

Sean Royce said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be nominated for this prestigious award. This is recognition for the whole team at KCOM which contributes so much to the local community and always goes the extra mile to make our region a better place to live, work and raise a family.

“I believe running a successful business goes hand in hand with fulfilling our social responsibilities. Establishing strong values that are embedded in your everyday ways of working is essential in building a sustainable business that can succeed and build a loyal customer base in the long term.

“As a business that has been at the heart of Hull and East Yorkshire since 1904 KCOM is part of the fabric of our region. We have around 900 employees who live in the region and we are a major economic and cultural contributor to the area. This brings with it with major responsibilities to do “the right thing” both for our business and the benefit of the community that supports us. As a local lad who grew up in this area I’m delighted if I can play even just a small part in making that a reality.”

Sean joined KCOM in 1989 and has been at the centre of many of the company’s milestones and innovations in recent years, including the completion of its full fibre network, which is now the UK standard bearer for world-class broadband.

As well as chairman of local sporting charity the Tigers Trust which aims to raise educational standards, aspirations and life chances for youngsters through sport, Sean is a director at Hull’s ground-breaking Centre for Digital Innovation (C4DI).
