Slow speeds and unreliable signals are a thing of the past

Slow speeds and unreliable signals are a thing of the past for Patricia Joy as she becomes KCOM’s first full fibre broadband customer in Howden.

Retired Patricia is KCOM’s first official Lightstream broadband customer in the East Riding market town after being connected to the Hull-based company’s award-winning full fibre network.

To mark the occasion, she was presented with a hamper of locally sourced goodies and a bouquet of flowers by KCOM Retail’s head of sales Alan Worthing and KCOM wholesale & networks’ head of engineering delivery Lee Allison.

Patricia said she decided to go for Lightstream because her previous broadband service was continually dropping out.

She is now connected to a 30Mbps Lightstream package which will allow her to stream her favourite shows and keep in touch with friends and family online.

She said: “I mainly use the broadband for watching Netflix and using my computer for Facebook and things like that. My previous service was always going down so I wanted something that was going to be reliable – and I think fibre will do that.”

Sean Royce, managing director of KCOM Retail, said he was delighted to welcome Patricia to the KCOM family, wishing her many years of seamless box set streaming and online surfing.

He said: “We’re delighted we can now offer customers like Patricia in Howden all the benefits of full fibre broadband.

“Our full fibre technology means we deliver our ultrafast broadband directly to your property, unlike some providers who use fibre only as far as the cabinet down the street – meaning the signal makes the final leg of its journey on old fashioned copper wiring.

“Lightstream broadband is now opening up a world of possibilities for families and businesses in Howden with what is one of the fastest and best broadband services in the UK.

“I’d like to thank Patricia for being our first customer in Howden and I look forward to welcoming many more to experience the life changing opportunities afforded by Lightstream broadband.”

KCOM’s arrival in Howden is part of the company’s £100m expansion of its full fibre network to towns and villages beyond its traditional Hull and East Yorkshire heartlands.

So far, the Hull-based company has reached Driffield, Market Weighton and Nafferton and will soon be providing Lightstream to Pocklington, Hornsea, Goole and Withernsea with more towns and villages in East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire to be named shortly.

KCOM was named the UK’s Best Consumer Internet Service Provider at the 2019 Internet Service Providers Association (ISPA) Awards and has been shortlisted for the award again this year.
