KCOM calls for a dozen more van-tastic names

They are a familiar sight winding their way through the streets of Hull and East Yorkshire – emblazoned with names honouring some of the city most famous sons, daughters and landmarks.

And now KCOM is set to add a further dozen vans to its fleet – and needs your help to pick another 12 prestigious names to be printed proudly on their side.

KCOM hit the headlines last March when it decided to name its fleet of 95 vans after illustrious Hullensians as part of the UK City of Culture celebrations.

Hundreds of names were nominated with the most popular including Jean “The Bee Lady” Bishop, abolitionist William Wilberforce, footballer Nick Barmby and Olympic gold medal boxer Luke Campbell.

But as the company expands its team of engineers, it has another 12 vans to name in honour of the region’s great and good.

KCOM’s chief marketing officer, Cathy Phillips, said: “The competition to name our vans last year really caught the public’s imagination.

“The sheer range of people who were nominated, from rugby legend Clive Sullivan and ballet dancer Xander Parish to comedian Lucy Beaumont, showed what a rich and diverse city Hull is and how much it’s given to the world.

“Now we want people to dig deeper and think of a dozen more names. People who epitomise what is great about Hull and East Yorkshire. Whether it’s from the fields of sport, politics, entertainment, or just people who have made a huge difference in their local community, we want to hear your suggestions of who we should honour by naming one of our vans after them.

“We are looking for new and original ideas - perhaps people who may not even have been considered last year.”
