KCOM’s festive shoe boxes bring Christmas cheer to Hull children

KCOM’s annual shoe box collection is helping to bring some festive cheer to disadvantaged Hull youngsters.

KCOM employees donated toys, colouring books, pencils, sweets and all sorts of other goodies to fill 90 shoe boxes for children in care in Hull.

The boxes were then delivered to the children, aged between four and 12, at a Christmas party at Endike Kids Club.

Tina Owen, from Endike Kids Club, said the presents would help brighten up Christmas for many youngsters.

She said: “To everyone at KCOM who contributed towards the fantastic shoe boxes a massive thank you.

“All of the children were really excited to receive their presents. Some of the parents of the younger children said their presents were going to Father Christmas.

“Some of the older children had a sneak look whilst at the party they were just as excited as the younger ones.

“All of the parents and carers have since come into the club and personally said thank you to everyone involved. We had a lovely time at the party and receiving the shoe boxes at the end contributed to perfect day.”

This is the fifth year that KCOM has held its Christmas shoe box collection, with donations from employees at both its Carr Lane HQ and Salvesen Way offices.

KCOM’s community coordinator Brendon Smurthwaite, said: “The Christmas shoe box collection is something we do each year and the generosity of our people is amazing. Everyone loves getting involved and there’s a real sense of satisfaction when you realise that the gifts are going to put a smile on a child’s face on Christmas morning.

“Knowing that we’ve helped to make a difference to so many children in our area is a great feeling and we’re looking forward to doing it all again next year.”
