Lightstream rollout reaches more properties in north Hull

2

KCOM’s ultrafast broadband rollout will reach more homes in north Hull in March.

Nearly 2,000 Sutton Park and HU7 properties will be able to connect to KCOM’s ultrafast broadband service from this month as it continues the final phase of its Lightstream deployment.

Streets including Waterdale, Thorndale, Nidderdale and Flemingdale will soon be able to order the world-leading Lightstream service, which can deliver download speeds of 350Mbps (megabits per second) for residential customers and one Gigabit per second for businesses.

Cathy Phillips, KCOM’s chief marketing officer, said: “We are delighted to be able to bring the benefits of full fibre broadband to more properties in north Hull as part of our Lightstream roll out.

“We’re well on the way to bringing our ultrafast service to every corner of our Hull and East Yorkshire network. In the coming months thousands more people and businesses will be able to enjoy the fastest and most reliable internet speeds in the country.”

KCOM will continue to make the service available in the remaining parts of its network, extending its rollout to more than 9,000 properties in Little Weighton, Walkington, Skidby, Hessle, Boulevard and Beverley Road between March and July.

A further 6,400 Bransholme properties will be connected in the autumn.

KCOM has announced it will complete its Lightstream rollout by March 2019, covering 100 per cent of its network and more than 200,000 properties.

When the deployment is complete, Hull and East Yorkshire will be among the best connected regions in the world – overtaking countries at the top of the broadband speed league such as Singapore, Sweden and Taiwan.

During a recent visit to Hull, Culture Minister Matt Hancock MP praised KCOM’s £85m investment in full fibre technology.

He said: “KCOM has done a tremendous job in rolling out full fibre broadband for the homes and businesses in Hull. Full fibre is fundamental for fashioning a Britain fit for the future.”
