A Hull and East Yorkshire charity that supports people with disabilities has been named as a winner in KCOM’s latest rounds of Community Grants.

The Special Stars Foundation has been granted £967 after it was one of three charities voted for by the public to be awarded one of the KCOM quarterly community grants.

The foundation, which supports more than 900 families across Hull and East Yorkshire, will now use the money to provide a variety of fun craft sessions.

Charity manager Natalie Barnes, said: “We are thrilled to be awarded the community grant by KCOM and very thankful to everyone that took the time to vote.

“The funding will enable us to run a variety of inclusive craft sessions for people affected by disability in Hull.”

The Special Stars Foundation runs art sessions three times a week from its Hull city centre premises aimed at reducing social isolation for people with disabilities.

Natalie said: “Our focus is to improve the quality of life for people affected by disability and their families.

“We achieve this by providing a diverse calendar of inclusive social activities which disabled people of all ages and abilities can participate in. We also offer subsidised physiotherapy and a range of support, training and advice services for parent carers.”
