Youngsters enjoy fun insight into industry

1

Youngsters at Keyingham Primary School enjoyed a glimpse into the world of work as part of Industry Day.

KCOM joined forces with a number of local and national businesses to support the event which aims to give children an insight into the different careers that will be open to them when they leave school.

As part of the day, two of KCOM’s engineering operations team visited the school to give pupils an overview of a typical day out in the field installing Lightstream broadband.

They also gave children a chance to experience ‘a day in the life’ of a KCOM customer service technician, with an opportunity to get dressed for work in a hard hat, safety harness and high-vis vest.

Brendon Smurthwaite, KCOM’s community coordinator, said: “We are delighted to support Industry Day, which is a great way to show children the huge array of choices and careers that will be open to them in the future.

“Industry day is always a lot of fun as well as being educational and the feedback we get from the children is that they really enjoy the practical approach to teaching them about the world of work.”
