With all of the awards ceremonies taking place recently, you might be in the mood for a gripping film or nail-biting series. If this is the case you’re in luck, as Netflix has a whole host of new and brilliant content to be enjoyed from the comfort of our own home.

Mute

After being compared to Blade Runner, this is a must-watch if you want to keep up-to-date with what’s new on Netflix. Many people have applauded its stunning visuals but criticised the film on how it has handled the sensitive subject material.

Mute is a science fiction mystery film starring Alexander Skarsgård, Paul Rudd and Justin Theroux. It follows the story of a mute bartender who is searching for a lover that mysteriously disappeared.

Altered Carbon

Based on the novel by English author Richard K. Morgan, Altered Carbon is set in an American cyberpunk dystopia centuries into the future.

In the year 2384, a person’s memories can be decanted into, what they call, a cortical sack. These devices can then be used in any vessel, such as a human or synthetic body. The series narrates what happens after political operative Takeshi Kovacs wakes up a quarter of a millennia after his previous body, or “sleeve”, was terminated.

The End of the F***ing World

If you love dark comedy and British humour, this show is a must-see. It originally debuted on Channel 4 last autumn and joins seventeen-year-old James and Alyssa. James convinces himself that he is a psychopath and Alyssa, James’s rebellious classmate, desires to escape from her hectic home life.

The acclaimed series has been praised for covering important topics and was inspired by several mini-comics that were made into a book in 2013.

Marvel’s Jessica Jones Season 2

After captivating Netflix viewers with its first explosive season, the newest instalment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is bound to entertain.

Jessica Jones, played by Krysten Ritter, is a private investigator who possesses super strength and agility. The first series witnessed a fantastic David Tennant portraying the evil mind-controlling Purple Man.

A Series of Unfortunate Events

You’ve probably seen the film, maybe even read the books, so now it’s time to watch the misfortunes of the Baudelaire children on the small screen in this intriguing TV series.

The first instalment, based on the novels, premiered last January and this month we see the famous Lemony Snicket story continue. This is a wonderful adaptation developed by Mark Hudis and Barry Sonnenfeld.
