Rock out with Bandcamp

Similar to Spotify, Bandcamp also has a Discover section, allowing you to access fresh tracks across a variety of genres. This week, we’re focusing on some of the best artists from their Rock section, for those who like their music with a hint of rebellion.

The Dwarfs of East Agouza

The Dwarfs of East Agouza are a trio from Cairo, Egypt, consisting of Maurice Louca, Sam Shalabi and Alan Bishop.

Founded back in 2012 when the three men were living in the same apartment building in Cairo’s Agouza district, their instrumental improvisation-based explorations are heightened by Louca’s North African percussion loops, Shalabi’s West African inspired free jazz guitar and Bishop’s driving Krautrock-style acoustic bass.

Sanguine Hum

Sanguine Hum started life as a musical collaboration between school friends Joff Winks and Matt Baber, whose goal was to create a unique blend of musical compositions inspired by artists such as the Flaming Lips, Tortoise, Aphex Twin and Frank Zappa. Their diverse project was formed throughout 2001, and by the next year their first EP was released under the name Antique Seeking Nuns.

After several years of creating music under different names and exploring multiple genres, their music had gained some interest from publishing companies, leading to plans to record a full album and start playing gigs. Brad Waissman and Paul Mallyon joined the crew shortly after, cementing what would become the core quartet of Sanguine Hum.

Phideaux Phideaux Xavier originally began creating music in high school and performed in a variety of bands over the following years. Originally only releasing a number of recordings on cassettes for his friends, he eventually produced a small number of copies of a CD entitled Friction, which found its way to a few music reviewers.

Later, in 2002, Phideaux started seriously mastering musical tracks. In 2003 he released his first CD with significant distribution, Fiendish. Since then, he’s gone on to release a further seven albums, several of which can be found on Bandcamp.

Wild Nothing

Wild Nothing was formed in late 2009 by Jack Tatum, who records all of their albums and EPs alone. During live performances, Tatum is joined by additional musicians, currently consisting of Nathan Goodman, Jeff Haley, Matt Kallman and Elroy Finn.

Classed as a mix of indie rock and dream pop, Wild Nothing has unleashed four amazing studio albums upon the world, the most recent being Indigo, which only came out last month.
