A list of our favourite games hitting the shelf this year

2019 is already a great year for gamers, with a wide range of both brand new gaming experiences and updated remasters of old classics due for release. Here are some of our favourites across all gaming platforms that are set to hit the shelves this year.

Mortal Kombat 11

Mortal Kombat 11 is an upcoming fighting video game in the Mortal Kombat series, making it the eleventh main installment and a direct sequel to 2015's Mortal Kombat X.

Following Shinnok's defeat at the hands of Cassie Cage in Mortal Kombat X, a corrupted Raiden plans to protect Earthrealm by destroying all its enemies, but a mysterious woman named Kronika, known as "The Keeper of Time", is attempting to bring order to the universe through any means necessary, including getting rid of Raiden for tampering with the events of the past, as seen in the previous game.

Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled

After the success of the remastered release of Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, Crash Team Racing has had the same treatment and is set for a summer release.

Much like N. Sane Trilogy, the game has been recreated from the basics, with heaps of fresh assets and content that includes new tracks, online play and kart customisation.

The game's main antagonist, Nitros Oxide, who was exclusively just a boss character in the original game, is also now an unlockable playable character.

Days Gone

Days Gone is a new action-adventure survival horror game, set in a post-apocalyptic and fully explorable open world. The player will control Deacon St. John, a former outlaw and bounty hunter who enjoys a dangerous life on the road to wilderness encampments.

Taking place two years after a global pandemic occurred that killed almost all of humanity and transformed millions of others into "Freakers" (mindless zombie-like creatures that are quickly evolving), the player will be able to complete objectives in multiple ways, as well as craft new items that will help to improve combat efficiency.

Catherine: Full Body

Another remaster of a popular game, Catherine: Full Body is set to be released towards the end of the year for the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita. Featuring brand new gameplay and story elements that focus on a third love interest named Qatherine, this re-release also has an updated online mode and a brand new level added to its story mode. Amazing downloadable content is also available that ties Catherine to other games such as Persona 5.

Animal Crossing Switch

Fans of the endearing Animal Crossing series rejoice – the newest addition to the franchise, designed specifically for the Nintendo Switch, could be set for release as early as September.

Animal Crossing Switch is expected to be a standalone entry to the series that features compatibility with the Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp mobile app, meaning it’s safe to assume there will be a lot of fishing, chatting with locals, upgrading houses and the paying off of mortgages involved.
