Sierra Burgess is a Loser

Continuing with their legacy of creating fun teen-oriented shows and movies, Netflix have dropped another gem this month in the form of Sierra Burgess is a Loser.

Directed by Ian Samuels and starring Shannon Purser of Stranger Things fame (Justice For Barb, anyone?) in the lead role, the film is a modern retelling of the Cyrano de Bergerac story and follows Sierra’s life as an unpopular high school student.

BoJack Horseman Season 5

When the first series of BoJack Horseman came to Netflix in 2014, it garnered an influx of mixed reviews. Other adult animated shows such as Archer and Family Guy rely on being predominantly funny, but was the world ready for a show about a depressed showbiz horse? The answer is apparently yes, as since then BoJack has secured four more seasons and a huge fan following.

As well as having a satirical take on current events, politics and the lives of celebrities, BoJack is regularly applauded for its realistic take on darker themes such as depression, trauma, addiction and self-destructive behaviour. Starring Will Arnett as the title character, the series also boasts an incredible supporting cast that includes Amy Sedaris, Alison Brie and Aaron Paul.

Seven Psychopaths

Just because it’s new to Netflix doesn’t mean it has to be new to you, but this is well worth another watch. 2012 dark comedy Seven Psychopaths is making its way onto the streaming site at the end of this month, so whether you’re itching to see it again or it’s been on your list for a while, now is the perfect time.

Directed by Martin McDonagh, Seven Psychopaths tells the story of a struggling screenwriter who inadvertently becomes entangled in the Los Angeles criminal underworld after his kooky friends kidnap a gangster's beloved Shih Tzu. What’s not to love? The film also marks the second time McDonagh and Colin Farrell have worked together after 2008’s In Bruges.

Inside No. 9 Season 3

If you’re a fan of Charlie Brooker’s Black Mirror, you can’t go on much longer without sinking your teeth into Inside No. 9. Written by British legends Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton of The League of Gentlemen, each half-hour episode tells a self-contained story showcasing new characters and a fresh setting, and stars at least one (if not both) of the writers.

Each episode also has a great cast and it’s managed to attract a number of well-known actors in past seasons, such as Nicola Walker and Sheridan Smith. The only thing all of the stories have in common is that they take place at a property numbered 9, as well as a brass hare statue appearing in the background.

Pemberton and Shearsmith took inspiration for Inside No. 9 from an episode of their other show Psychoville, which itself was inspired by Alfred Hitchcock's Rope.
