Connecting your Sky Q device to eero

Written by KCOM Support on 07/10/2024. Posted in Broadband.

Here you will find the guide on how to connect your Sky Q to your new eero

Getting Your Sky Q Boxes Back Online

To quickly reconnect your Sky Q to the internet, the most effective method is to power cycle all your Sky Q boxes. To do this, switch each box off at the mains power socket, then turn them back on. Please note that using the remote control to turn them off won't achieve the same result. Allow around 2 minutes for each box to fully restart and reconnect to the internet.

We advise against resetting your network settings unless restarting the boxes does not resolve the issue, as most customers find that simply power cycling restores their connection.

If you continue to experience connection problems, you can try the following additional steps:

Eco Mode can cause your Sky Q boxes to go to sleep, affecting the connection. Disabling it can help maintain a stable connection:

  • Press the Home button on your Sky Q remote control.
  • Go to the Settings menu.
  • Choose Preferences from the options.
  • Adjust Standby Mode to None.

Disable 2.4GHz Wi-Fi on Mini Boxes Switching your Sky Q mini boxes to the 5GHz Wi-Fi band can improve stability:

On your Sky Q remote, press the Home button.

  • Go to the Settings menu (but don't press Select just yet).
  • Using the number keys on your remote, enter 001, then press Select to access the engineer menu.
  • Go to the Networks tab and disable 2.4GHz Wireless.

Avoid making any changes to other settings in this menu.
  • Press the Back or Home button on your remote to exit the menu.

Use an Ethernet Connection for Your Main Sky Q Box

For a more stable and reliable connection, connect your main Sky Q box directly to your eero device using an Ethernet cable. If your eero device is located far from your Sky Q box, consider purchasing a longer Cat-5e or Cat-6 Ethernet cable to bridge the gap. While this option may require some extra setup, it is the most effective way to ensure a consistent and dependable connection for all your Sky Q device
