KCOM Community Grants focus on relief from impact of Covid-19

The broadband provider has announced nominations are now open for the next round of grants that could see three local good causes from across the region win up to £1,000 each.

This time, the company is particularly keen to hear from community groups and charities that are making a difference to people’s lives during the latest Covid-19 lockdown.

Dale Raneberg, KCOM chief executive officer, said: “For our latest round of quarterly community grants scheme we’d especially love to hear from those Hull, East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire groups that are making an impact helping vulnerable people and helping to improve life for their local communities through these challenging times.

“Last year we temporarily suspended our normal community grant process and put extra effort and resources to where they were needed most by local groups to help them in their fight against coronavirus.

“We also doubled our usual grant donations to £6,000 which enabled charities such as the Smile Foundation and North Bank Forum to provide vital food and medical supplies to vulnerable people across the region.

“We know that the fight is still ongoing and that the latest lockdown has hit parts of our local community extremely hard, but there are many local charities doing exceptional work to make life better and we’d like to recognise that with our latest community grant awards.

“So, if you know a group that is really making a difference right now please get in touch and nominate them for an award.”

Nominations for the grants are now open and will run until Monday, 8 February. A shortlist of six will be chosen by KCOM before the public is asked to vote for the final three winners, which will be revealed in March.

For the last round of grants, KCOM teamed up with Hull-based charity the Smile Foundation to help six local community groups: Pocklington Rugby In The Community, Friends of Hull Cemetery, Kingston Amateur Boxing Club, Beverley Mutual Aid, The Green Team and Men in Sheds Haltemprice.

Andy Bowden, of Pocklington Rugby in the Community (PRITC), said its £1,000 grant enabled its volunteers to deliver 200 Christmas dinners and friendship to lonely older and isolating people during the festive season (pictured below).
