How to use your Voice Adapter

Written by KCOM Support on 04/11/2024. Posted in General.

As the nations Broadband and Telecommunications market is continuously improving, we are striving to keep up to industry standards and more!

Part of this, includes removing our copper network and allowing for Full Fibre to be our only method of service, for both Broadband and Landline.

Any new customer, or existing customer upgrading to Full Fibre, will now be placed on our VOIP Network. What is VOIP? Voice Over Internet Protocol is where we will provide your landline service through our Full Fibre Network, rather than our old Copper Network.

For us to be able to provide this more reliable service, we will need to slightly adjust your setup, by providing you with a Voice Adapter.

What is a Voice Adapter and how do I install it?

A Voice Adapter, is a small white adapter that will plug into your ONT(Optical Network Terminal)

You will have one of the following ONT's installed in your property:

White ONT Black ONT

Your adapter will be plugged into one of the ports on the underside of the ONT.

For the White ONT, this will be plugged into the "Tel1" Port - Click, here, for a video on how to do this.

For the Black ONT, this will be plugged into the "POTS1" Port - Click, here, for a video on how to do this.

Once, you have plugged your adapter in to your ONT, please make sure the relevant light on the front side of the ONT is flashing green.

Then, please dial a number to ensure you are able to make outbound calls successfully, followed by dialling your landline, to ensure you can receive calls successfully.

If you have any issues with the above, or would like any further information, please contact our Technical Support team on - 01482 602555.

If you have other existing phone connections:

If you use a life pendant or lifeline please contact us on 01482 602555, so we can ensure we have the correct information on your account and we can best serve you and look after your connection.

If you have multi-handset cordless phones in your home, these will work as normal once the adapter is connected. However, standard corded phones connected to the copper landline will not be compatible. To use your existing corded phones, an engineer visit is required. This will incur a service fee of £120 to reconfigure the extensions for VOIP compatibility.

Upon receiving your new eero 6+ router(s), you will also receive your Voice Adapter with a leaflet. You can find a copy of the leaflet below.
