From digital art and outdoor creativity to food banks, museums and parks, local organisations across Hull and the East Riding are turning KCOM grants into big community impact.

In the latest round of the KCOM Community Grants, seven grassroots groups have received funding to break down barriers, build skills and bring communities together – with the latest winners named as Square Peg Hull, Rewilding Youth, East Riding Food Poverty Alliance, Southburn Archaeological Museum, HEY Endo CIO, Friends of Alderman Kneeshaw Park and Hull and East Yorkshire Ukrainian Community (HEYUC).

KCOM Community Impact Partner Louise Babych said: “For our final grants of 2025 we were inundated with some fantastic applications and awarded the largest number of grants of the year.

“The winners represent a wide range of good causes right across the KCOM region – from helping local youngsters and disabled adults to boosting foodbanks and improving open spaces for everyone – and we’re delighted to support them in their quests to improve local lives.”

Square Peg Hull received £660 to purchase two iPads, helping disabled and neurodiverse adults take part in digital art during its Got Something to Say sessions.

Founder Rachel Elm explained how the funding will improve accessibility: “This funding will help us purchase two iPads that will make our Got Something to Say sessions more accessible for disabled artists. Accessible digital tools allow our participants to create, communicate and share their work more independently - it’s a simple change that removes big barriers.”

Rewilding Youth was awarded £1,000 to deliver a Nature and Climate Creative Lab for young people aged from 12 to 18, using photography, sound and art in green spaces around Hull.

Neil Reade, Youth Environment Education Worker, said: “Thank you KCOM! This digital equipment will really help us deliver modern methods of recording and developing new projects with young people.”

East Riding Food Poverty Alliance received £610, which will fund 30 new food donation baskets to increase public donations and support families facing food insecurity throughout 2026.

The impact of the grant was highlighted by Food Bank Development Officer Jodie Colgrave: “We're incredibly grateful to KCOM’s Community Grant Fund for supporting our work across the East Riding. This support will make a real difference to local families facing food insecurity, and we’re proud to work alongside KCOM to strengthen our community.”

Southburn Museum

Southburn Archaeological Museum was awarded £400 to introduce a system linking physical display labels to digital records, improving accessibility and engagement for visitors.

Volunteer Lead Denis Cox said: “The grant aided funds we applied for will benefit our museum to develop our community educational resources in the future. On behalf of all our volunteers, a big thank you KCOM.”

HEY Endo CIO received £500 to purchase a new laptop and accessories, supporting its growing awareness and advocacy work across Hull and East Yorkshire.

Co-founder Ashleigh Hirst said: “We're very grateful for the money which we've been given by KCOM. This will allow us to continue to support over 1,100 members of our support group, plus the growing number of companies and corporations who have signed up to our Endometriosis Workplace Charter.”

Friends of Alderman Kneeshaw Park was awarded £600 to buy a tablet and camera for its youth programme, helping young people set up a community enterprise selling handmade items online.

Lead Volunteer Debbie Morrell said: “This KCOM funding will teach young people digital and enterprise skills - managing an online shop, photographing products, editing images, writing descriptions and promoting them via social media.”

Hull and East Yorkshire Ukrainian Community

Finally, Hull and East Yorkshire Ukrainian Community (HEYUC) received £250 to support refreshments at a Christmas celebration for Ukrainian children, alongside gifts donated by KCOM’s Customer Team.

Volunteer Kateryna Zabrodina spoke about the importance of the support saying: “We're deeply grateful for KCOM's support of £250. Thanks to this funding, we were able to host a Christmas celebration for around 30 Ukrainian children - a chance for them to experience warmth, joy and a little feeling of home during the festive season.”
