This article explains how to enable or disable band steering for the Technicolor DGA4231, DGA2231 or DWA0120 routers.
We recommend when making any adjustments to the settings on your router, to connect to your router with a wired ethernet connection. However, this can be done wirelessly if a wired connection isn't an option.
Enabling or disabling band steering
- Open a web browser and type 192.168.1.1
- When the Router Gateway page loads, you'll see a series of tiles for different settings on the router. Click on any of these tiles, this will prompt the sign in page to pop up. If you've never logged into the router before the default sign in details will be:
- Username - admin
- Password - This is the Access Key that can be found either on the card you got with your router or on a sticker on the router.
The access key must be typed in exactly as shown on the card / sticker.
Where's the reset button?
- Username - admin
- If this is the first-time logging into the router you may be prompted to change the password. If you don't want to change the password, you can skip this step by pressing the skip button.
- Now you'll see the main page with the series of tiles again, click on the 'Wireless' tile.
- Make sure you're on the 'Interface Config' tab, scroll down on this tab and you'll find 'Band Steering enabled'. This is where you can enable or disable band steering.
- Now you have enable / disabled band steering you'll need to click 'save'.
If you have enabled band steering you will only see one wireless signal, if you have disabled it you will see two.
