KCOM engineers bring advent calendar cheer for local youngsters

KCOM engineers have helped bring some festive cheer by delivering advent calendars to local youngsters.

The engineering team has donated almost 200 calendars to be shared out among several community groups across Hull including The Hub School, Maxlife Youth Project and children and young people charity Downright Special.

Engineering team leader Ollie Lockton, who is more used to delivering ultrafast fibre broadband than Christmas treats, said: “It’s been a real privilege to deliver these calendars to local kids who now have an extra reason to be excited about the countdown to Christmas. Seeing the smile on their faces has helped kick the festive season off in style for me.

“I’d like to thank my team mates who’ve really stepped up and dug deep to buy and deliver the calendars, it just shows what a great bunch we have to work with here at KCOM.”

Fiona Rainforth, emotional wellbeing Lead at The Hub School Hull, said: “Our students don’t express themselves in the way a mainstream student may do, but they are truly grateful and excited for their advent calendars. For some of our students this will be their first advent calendar thanks to their generosity. We are truly humbled.”

All three charities, The Hub, Max Life and Downright Special, had already won a KCOM Community Grant earlier this year.

Maxlife, a local youth club, used its grant to purchase kitchen equipment while the Hub, an alternative provision to mainstream school, used its grant too purchase jogging bottoms, leggings, socks and personal hygiene products for their students.
